Growing a Business: Parallels to Being a Martial Artist

Running a martial arts business has been an journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons. As an entrepreneur in the martial arts industry, I have the privilege of witnessing firsthand the parallels of the martial arts. In this blog post, I want to share a thought I had this morning about change and evolution.

Plateaus and Tipping Points

All martial artists have experienced their shares of plateaus and tipping points whereas the latter being of the most value. Being able to break through and reach new heights is an amazing feeling. An interesting thing about that is the little change that created the tipping point. Its the tiny little detail that makes all the difference.

If you’re a martial arts student, remember that light bulb moment you had with your instructor when they casually walk by and say things like, “Hold your pinky finger like this.” You do it, then experience that WTF feeling and say, “That’s all I had to do?!” That tipping point just made life so much easier.

Its those moments that make me perpetually hunt for the small details that has been blocked by a shiny new interest or some bias I never knew I had. Taking action on those details has made my techniques in both my martial arts training and in growing my business. It just takes a coach to help out.

Scaling and Evolving

When it comes to solutions, the perfect ones are repeatable, transferrable, scalable and sustainable. Evolving those solutions ultimately becomes my everyday activity. As previously mentioned, that small detail is always on my radar so that my next tiers of growth can be realized. I take my breaks as necessary, but relatively thats what I love to do. Just improve.

My Take Aways

The journey of growing a business and being a martial artist share fascinating parallels. From experiencing plateaus and tipping points to continuously seeking improvement and evolving, both paths require dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace change. As we navigate the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship and martial arts, let’s remember the power of those small details, the guidance of our coaches, and the joy of continuous growth. Whether it’s on the mat or in the business arena, may we always strive to reach new heights and unlock our full potential. So, embrace the journey, keep refining those techniques, and never stop evolving. Onwards to new horizons!
